Sex Work: Empowerment, Exploitation, or Both?

Who benefits from sex work, and who bears the risks within the industry?

Join us in exploring the complex realities of sex work.

In a society structured by patriarchy, capitalism, and intersecting systems of oppression, our bodies are rarely entirely our own. They are sites where power, desire, and economic interests collide. Can true consent exist within such a system?

When poverty, stigma, and patriarchal expectations shape the options available, the freedom to choose sex work (or any labour) cannot be separated from structural constraints.

At the same time, sex work can offer agency, income, and independence in ways that traditional labour structures often deny. For many, it offers the opportunity to take control of their bodies, express creativity, and exercise autonomy and self-expression.

Who decides what is “acceptable” work?

Designed as an interactive and participatory dialogue, our online gathering prioritises listening, reflection, and community insight. Join us as we reflect on empowerment, exploitation, and who ultimately benefits from the industry.
