The Weight of Care: Motherhood and the Myth of Perfection

From family expectations to social norms, from religious traditions to media portrayals, women are told that fulfillment comes through motherhood — that our value lies in nurturing others, not ourselves. Those who choose not to have children are often labeled as selfish, incomplete, or unfeminine, revealing how deeply our society ties women’s worth to care, sacrifice, and service.

We invite you to join our workshop exploring the cultural, emotional, and political pressures of motherhood—and the broader expectations placed on women’s labour, bodies, and humanity.

Too often, women are burdened with impossible demands: to give endlessly, to endure without complaint, and to serve others at the expense of our own well-being. This workshop opens a collective space to question these myths, to imagine new ways of practicing care, embracing rest, and reclaiming autonomy from systems that exploit and deplete us.

Together, we’ll explore:

·The emotional and political pressures placed on women to reproduce.

·How systems of exploitation shape and constrain our intimate lives.

·New ways of imagining care, rest, and community beyond capitalist frameworks.

·Meaningful connections with others seeking liberatory practices of nurturing and selfhood.

Join us in reclaiming the right to define our own lives.
