The spectacle of Black suffering is ritualised and consumed again and again in Britain.
It heals something in this country.
It soothes them.
To know that you are human within this racial order is to know that you are not Black.
The sight of the Black body being disciplined, degraded, excluded, surveilled, exhausted, injured or killed produces psychic reassurance…
“At least I am not THAT”
“At least I not BLACK”
“I am not the SLAVE”
“I am HUMAN”
Our dehumanisation makes their humanity feel secure.
Our exclusion becomes their belonging.
Our death is their proof of life.
